A note from Monica:

MoonShine Fashion Trunk Show

What first sparked my interest in sewing as a teen was the desire to make my own unique and original clothes. My mother was a dress maker therefore there was no shortage of fabrics and sewing equipment in our family home. So I set to work, making some of the best eighties fashion ever seen! I had as many successes as I did failures but I always loved the feeling of being inventive and creative as all sewers do.

It was these humble beginnings that led me to a career in fashion. Mother new best and encouraged me to take a job starting at the bottom in a fashion house in Surry Hills, Sydney. I was taught to sew by some of the best seamstresses in Sydney but just sewing the garments wasn’t enough for me, I had to know how the patterns were designed and made so I enrolled in TAFE where I studied pattern making and design in the evenings. Fashion was my passion and by age 21, I was a head designer.

After my first child was born I discovered patchwork and quilting which led me to my business of MoonShine Designs. I have been designing handbag and quilting patterns since 2002. I’ve now come full circle and last year I launched “MoonShine Fashion” which is a range of clothing patterns designed especially for the quilting market.

Whilst patchwork and quilting is the main focus of our industry it is important to be able to offer your customers new ideas and a variety of projects to sew. Good quality patchwork fabrics wash and wear exceptionally well and with so many gorgeous fabrics available why limit them only to quilts?

The new MoonShine Fashion patterns are easy fitting stylish clothes that are designed to suit all figure types and ages with sizes ranging from 8 to 22. They are simple and fun to make with no tricky bits. Your customers can make something for themselves that they look and feel good in.

Joining pattern press was a fantastic decision as it has allowed me a lot more time to design and write patterns and with Helen’s exceptional organisational skills we can now bring to you the MoonShine Fashion trunk show sponsored by Charles Parsons. This is a fantastic opportunity to have the samples in your shop and as we all know, it’s samples that sell patterns and the patterns that help to sell fabric.

The fashion Show consists of a range of mix and match garments made up in pieces from Art Gallery’s Spell bound range and coordinated with Charles Parsons Hanky Linen and “Fido” cotton voile. Some of the garments are trimmed with cotton lace and satin ribbon.

There are 7 patterns on show:

The garden Party Tops,

Salsa and A line Skirt

The Spring Vest

Café Jacket and Artist Tunic

New comfy pants pattern

Spice of life handbag

The Maria Top

As a thank you for hosting the fashion show you will receive a pattern sheet of the new Chic Caftan Top which you can photocopy and give free to those who attend the trunk show. This top can be made in a couple of hours and is a fantastic fabric seller as it requires up to 2 m of fabric.

I do hope that the fashion show is successful for your shop!
